Biography

He was born in Ankara in 1968.

He graduated with honors from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty in 1991.

Between 1991-1997, he completed his specialization training in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.

Between 1997-1998, he completed a clinical fellowship in adult cardiac surgery and heart transplantation at the Mayo Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in the United States.

He began his career in 1998 at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, actively participating in its establishment. He became an assistant professor in 1999 and an associate professor in 2003.

Between 2003 and 2006, he served as the head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Selim İsbir received his professorship in 2009 and served as the Chief Physician of Marmara University Hospital from April 2009 to May 2010.

He worked at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital between 2019-2024, and at Northwell Health Northshore University Hospital in New York from 2022-2023. He currently continues his work at Yeditepe University Hospitals.

He is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.

In the field of Cardiovascular Surgery, he specializes in aortic aneurysms and their treatment, heart valve repairs, minimally invasive valve disease surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, and heart failure surgery.
