Instant noodle consumption, although frequently preferred due to today’s fast-paced lifestyle, is drawing attention with its potential health risks. New research on its relationship with serious health issues such as metabolic syndrome and heart diseases has revealed important data. In this article, we discuss the risks of instant noodle consumption and heart health statistics in Turkey in light of current research published in 2025.
Instant Noodle Consumption and Metabolic Syndrome Risk
A scientific study published in South Korea in 2025 showed that instant noodle consumption could increase the risk of metabolic syndrome.
Research Summary:
- Publication Title: The association between noodle consumption and metabolic syndrome in Korean adults
- Publication Date: 2025
- Publication Place: PubMed Central (PMC)
- PMCID: PMC11937494
- DOI: 10.4162/nrp.2025.19.1.1
This study examined data from 10,505 adults. According to the findings:
- High noodle consumption increases the risk of developing metabolic syndrome by 48% (OR: 1.48; 95% CI: 1.16–1.90).
- Additionally, a positive association was found with hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and abdominal obesity (fat accumulation in the abdominal area).

What is Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is defined by the combination of high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excessive abdominal fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels. This condition significantly increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
Heart Health and Heart Attack Statistics in Turkey (2023 Data)
Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death in Turkey. According to TUIK 2023 data:
- Total number of deaths: 525,814 people
- Deaths due to circulatory system diseases: 36.4%
- Deaths due to ischemic heart diseases: 15.1%
- Deaths due to heart attacks: Approximately 9.8% of all deaths.

What is the Death Rate Among Those Who Have Had a Heart Attack?
It is not true, as claimed in some sources, that 66% of those who have had a heart attack lose their lives. According to data from the Ministry of Health and TUIK, this rate is much lower. Only about 9.8% of all deaths are caused by heart attacks.

Is the Risk of Heart Attack Increasing Among Young People?
According to data from the Ministry of Health, there was no significant change in the death rate due to heart attacks in the 15-44 age group between 2011-2023. However, a slight increase was observed in the 45-54 age group during the pandemic period.
Instant Noodle Consumption and Heart Health: What Should We Do?
There is strong scientific evidence that instant noodle consumption increases the risk of metabolic syndrome and that excessive consumption can have negative effects on heart health. Therefore:
- Instant noodle consumption should be limited.
- A healthy, balanced diet should be adopted (predominantly vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats).
- Regular exercise should be done and heart health check-ups should be performed at least once a year.
